WHO WE ARE
Cuban, engineer, and I remember. The rest is verifiable.
✶ Cuban ✶ Network engineer ✶ MADL Board of Directors ✶ Opinions are my own
My name is Rafael A. Gómez Sánchez. I am Cuban and a network engineer: servers, systems and security, the trade of keeping things running. This blog is my personal space: here I represent no one but myself.
We left Cuba like so many others. Not for adventure or ambition, but because a dictatorship eventually leaves you a single choice, stay silent or leave, and we already knew what silence costs. My wife, Daylenis Lorenzo Salinas, and I left seeing clearly what that system was: one that surveils, punishes and impoverishes its own people, and treats anyone who thinks differently as an enemy. What we lived through there is documented where it belongs. I am not here to retell it in detail, but to keep doing what we were already doing before we left, now without fear: calling the dictatorship by its name.
I serve on the Board of Directors of the Anti-Communist Movement and Freedom Defenders (MADL), a registered United States nonprofit that documents human-rights violations in Cuba, denounces the regime’s repression, and supports political prisoners and their families. There I put my hands and my trade at the service of the cause; here I put my voice. This blog is also the record of that work: what we do, when and where, with the evidence in plain sight.
You do not have to take any of this on my word. All of it can be independently verified.
