Washington, August 13, 2026. U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth issued a warning Havana would do well to heed: “all options are on the table, including military options.”
Hegseth went further, noting that Cuba should pay close attention to President Donald Trump’s readiness to defend America’s strategic interests, and recalled that, particularly in this hemisphere, there is no comparison to the power of the United States.
A political and strategic signal that is hard to ignore
Washington is no longer talking only about sanctions and diplomatic pressure. For decades, the Cuban dictatorship has survived believing it can defy the United States with impunity while deepening its ties with Russia, Iran, and other adversaries of Washington. Today, the message coming from the Department of War is different: all options are on the table.
How that dictatorship controls what its citizens can read and say I have written about separately, with the measurements to hand: how a website gets blocked in Cuba.
The Cuban people have waited for freedom long enough. Let the dictatorship take note. 🇨🇺 Cuba will be free.
